Broward Ciclovia
Open Streets programs temporarily open streets exclusively for people so they can enjoy safe, car free space in their city. the concept first originated in Latin America, where they are known as Ciclovías Recreativas.
Open Streets offer communities the opportunity to experience their streets in whole new ways by providing new public spaces, connecting neighborhoods and cities, and encouraging physical activity by exploring community assets such as parks, local businesses, etc.
Open Streets initiatives are typically recognized for creating a fun and inviting outdoor environment for physical activity. Another benefit is that these programs can enrich the social fabric of communities and enhance the quality of life for all participants – both citizens and business owners alike.

The Broward MPO hosted a webinar to introduce this concept to the Broward region by presenting successful Open Streets events and special guests such as the City of Los Angeles' CicLAvia. This was a unique opportunity to learn from experts about the impacts of this initiative in the communities adopting it.
