Coordination/Partnerships

Effective freight and goods movement and intermodal freight planning involves the coordination and collaboration of many agencies. The Broward MPO works with partners in all three Southeast Florida counties to ensure the quick and efficient movement of goods in the region. The 2014 Southeast Florida Regional Freight Plan was completed with input from all three area MPOs (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach), all three ports (PortMiami, Port Everglades, and Port of Palm Beach), all three area airports, the Florida Department of Transportation, and private industry.

The Broward MPO's freight partners include:

MPOAC Freight Advisory Committee

MPO Executive Director Gregory Stuart chairs the Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council (MPOAC) Freight Advisory Council, whose mission is to serve as the clearinghouse for all Florida MPOs and support regional freight planning efforts. The MPOAC Freight Advisory Council is made up of representatives from MPOs from across the state of Florida, and promotes the quick and efficient movement of goods throughout the state. • Plans to dredge the main Port Everglades navigational channels from 42 to 48 feet continue. This dredging would allow the arrival of larger ships that will travel through the expanded Panama Canal. • PortMiami  recently completed its deep dredge and is now the only major logistics hub south of Virginia capable of handling fully laden post-Panamax vessels.  For more information on the PortMiami dredging, please visit: http://www.miamidade.gov/portmiami/deep-dredge.asp
