Transportation Master Plans (TMPs)

The Browarad MPO works hand-in-hand with cities across the county to plan safer, more connected roads for everyone. Through our Community Planning Team, we provide hands-on support to help local covernments create Transportation Master Plans (TMPs) that reflect the needs sof their communities.

Since 2021, we've partnered with cities like Lauderhill, Plantation, and Wilton Manors to turn local ideas into real, buildable transportation projects, and we continue to expand this effort to other communities.

What is a Transportation Master Plan?

A TMP is a roadmap for improving how people move around a city; whether they're walking, biking, driving, or using transit. The Master Plans not only determine and prioritize improvements for all road users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders, but they also identify executable transportation projects. Technical assistance includes a variety of support, including establishing planning goals, assessing needs, evaluating options, engaging with stakeholders, developing project planning concepts, and preparation of planning-level cost estimates.

Broward MPO’s City Services holistically approaches all projects, intending to ensure local and regional plans follow a consistent and coherent direction with recommended improvements that are developed with public involvement, realistic, and implementable.

What We Help Cities Do:

Through these plans, the Broward MPO works with cities to identify up to six priority roadways for potential improvements:

  • Prioritizing safety and comfort for all users
  • Reflecting input from the community
  • Positioning projects to be competitive for future funding

We work closely with city staff, stakeholders, and residents to understand current conditions, explore solutions, and shape projects that reflect local priorities.

Program Details

This program is funded through the MPO's Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), which supports planning efforts over a two-year cycle. Each plan takes approximately 18 months to complete.
