Mobile Workshops

As part the 2023 Safe Streets Summit, there will be multiple interactive tours conducted through the Mobile Workshop event offered on Thursday, February 2, 2023. The goal of the Mobile Workshop is to provide participants with an opportunity to experience first-hand the type of infrastructure that has been built in Broward to create safer and more multi-modal streets. Each tour will highlight different parts of Broward emphasizing current and planned transportation and built environment efforts, walkability, bikeability, micromobility, economic development, livability, and access to transportation options. Local experts and community representatives will provide insight and relevant information about a variety of projects and current efforts, focusing on results/outcomes and lessons learned. Each of the Mobile Workshop tour will start and conclude at the Hollywood Diplomat Hotel A networking event will occur after the Mobile Workshop. Comfortable attire and shoes are highly recommended for all mobile workshop participants.

Conference registrants are limited to 1 mobile workshop tour as these occur simultaneously. Additional registration and fee is required and there is limited capacity. Registration is now closed.

1. Cruisin’ on the Boardwalk: a Hollywood Beach Bike Tour

Tour Partners: City of Hollywood; Bike provider

Tour Distance: Approximately 10 miles roundtrip

Take the scenic route, as we bike along the oceanfront on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and Surf Road. This 10-mile bike tour will allow participants to experience popular destinations through the lens of local bicyclists, joggers, rollerbladers, and pedestrians. Participants will experience spectacular ocean views, vintage architecture, redevelopment, and nature trails. Technical experts and local representatives will provide information about how the City of Hollywood is prioritizing mobility, resiliency, and redevelopment along the barrier island. The event will begin and end at the conference venue (The Diplomat) where a shuttle will provide participants with transportation to and from the tour area. Lunch, Bikes and helmets will be provided to all registrants.

Skill Level: Beginner, mostly flat route

Separation from traffic: Varies, mostly high separation

2. Filling in the blanks: Connecting communities with places of interest and everyday destinations


Tour Partner: City of Hollywood; Bike provider

Tour Distance: Approximately 10 miles

Suburban communities are not known to have comfortable connected bike and pedestrian facilities. However, the City of Hollywood working with the Broward MPO and Florida DOT have collaboratively planned and implemented various bike facilities that connect these suburban communities to nearby destinations. Join us to pedal around Western Hollywood for a tour that will immerse you in a connected bike network away from highly traveled throughfares in the City. The bike tour will guide participants across multiple types of bike facilities that include linear parks and buffered bike lanes. The tour will demonstrate how collaboration and efficient planning across many agencies can provide suburban communities a multimodal spine. The event will begin and end at the conference venue (The Diplomat) where a bus will provide participants with transportation to and from the tour area. Lunch, Bikes and helmets will be provided to all registrants.

Duration of Tour: 3 hrs.

Mode: Bike

Skill Level: intermediate, mostly flat route

Separation from traffic: Varies, low to high. Ranges from bike lanes adjacent to vehicular lanes to buffered bike lanes within a linear park.

3. Making Our Way Downtown: The Intersection of Economic Development and Transportation


Tour Partner: City of Hollywood

Tour Distance: Approximately 2 miles

Experience the two-mile stretch of Hollywood Blvd from the City Hall to the Arts Park at Young Circle, with the City showcasing multimodal improvements, including the “Hollywood Blvd Complete Streets project”. Join us as we stroll along Hollywood Boulevard where streetscape improvements and strategic redevelopment continue to enhance the economic vitality of the corridor while creating a more vibrant and sustainable Downtown Hollywood. Business owners and stakeholder will provide a human-scale, user perspective that was critical in advancing these improvements and efforts forward. The event will begin and end at the conference venue (The Diplomat) where a bus will provide participants with transportation to and from the tour area. Lunch will be provided.

4. Tactical Urbanism Tour – Low-Cost Solutions Igniting Meaningful Change in Ft. Lauderdale


Tour Partner: City of Fort Lauderdale

Tour Distance: Approximately 2 mile

Join us for a colorful excursion in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. This tour will highlight community-driven tactical urbanism improvements at various locations in the City aimed at increasing vulnerable user safety, reducing vehicular speeds, and enhancing economic vitality. Participants will hear from local technical experts, community members and business owners who have participated in the entire process; “from inception to completion”. Local representatives will highlight the collaborative process undertaken to ensure community involvement, establish partnerships, and will discuss funding strategies. Participants will experience various Tactical Urbanism interventions that have helped fill mobility gaps, including the recently completed NE 15th Ave Quick-Build project. The tour will include a ride on eco-friendly shuttles and a walking tour of the area. The event will begin and end at the conference venue (The Diplomat) where a bus will provide participants with transportation to and from the tour area. Lunch will be provided.
