This morning, Florida Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is advancing funding to start construction on the Southwest 10th Street Connector project by 2022. The Broward MPO Board voted in July 2016 to move the Southwest 10th Street project to the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) phase, taking into account the recommendations of the Community Oversight Advisory Team (COAT). The COAT, a group of residents from municipalities impacted by the SW 10th Street project, began meeting in November 2015 and discussed concerns, future conditions, and potential concepts on making the SW 10th Street project meet the needs of residents, businesses, and commuters impacted by the corridor. The COAT provided recommendations and conditions for approval to the Broward MPO Board in 2016, and continues to advise the ongoing process.

“With full funding of the Southwest 10th Street Connector complete, the Broward MPO will continue to work with the City of Deerfield Beach, FDOT, and other partners to ensure minimal impacts to Deerfield Beach while providing better transportation access to our growing region,” said Broward MPO Executive Director Gregory Stuart. “Ensuring all voices and viewpoints are heard was, and remains, an important aspect of this project.”

As the Southwest 10th Street Connector project moves closer towards construction, the MPO continues to work with the project sponsor, FDOT, in ensuring that the project meets the recommendations of the COAT and enhances the transportation system in our area.
